The procedure is carried out to deal with diseases of the inner structure of the tooth especially the pulp.

The affected teeth show an inflammation of the pulp, which may be as a result of extensive decay, trauma or dysfunctional biting habits.

Root canal treatment involves removing the infected tissue of the tooth root followed by cleaning, disinfection of the root canal and filling of the cleaned canal with plasticized inert material called GuttaPercha.
